How is ChapterMill different from a word processor?

A word processor edits one document at a time. ChapterMill runs the whole production process around your book — chapter organization, per-chapter word counts and streaks, a Draft → Editing → Proof pipeline, and one-click export to typeset PDF and audiobook. You still write the words; ChapterMill keeps the manuscript, the progress, and the output in one place.

Is my manuscript private?

Yes. Your manuscript stays on your machine. We never use your writing to train models, and we never share or sell it. Your words are yours — ChapterMill is a tool for producing your book, not a data pipeline.

What can I export to?

Print-ready, typeset PDFs generated with XeLaTeX, audiobook-ready audio files from the audiobook pipeline, and a two-way Notion sync for your working notes. Import from DOCX or TXT to get started, and export publication-ready manuscripts when you're done.

Do I need my own API keys?

No. The Free and Author plans include a monthly AI token allowance, so you can use the assistive features out of the box. If you'd rather run on your own account, the Pro plan lets you bring your own API keys — Claude, OpenAI & more — for full control over usage and cost.
